Whilst some members were testing themselves at the quick Southmoor course, four City members faced the time keeper in the Diamond-hf open 10 on the fast U47 course (near Cricklade) in what can only be described as far from perfect conditions, with the brisk cold north wind hurting on the entire "upslope" return leg.

Hi All
I've reserved a number of places (4 - 16+) at the Red Lion Yarnton for lunch next Sunday (17th). Usual format, arrive 12 noon, order off menu at standard prices (say ?10 ish)and leave about 1:30pm.to avoid lighting up time.
They have a large Party booked for 3pm so need to move us quite quickly - which is good - but I need to give a better indication of numbers asap to assist their ordering-in.
Please let me know by return how many places you will need - whether riding or not... Also any members not on our usual circulation that you know would like to come.
Cheers John J

Dexter gets another improvement on his juvenile best, with 22:08 (and a soft front tub) and Howard sets a vet record with 20:30. Keith Williams sets a new vet standard with 23:15, demolishing quite a few of his previous age-group bests, and Joe and Brodie get PBs of 22:28 and 23:10 respectively. Provisional results here
9 September: Hardwick/Eynsham 10 Results here.
[Heart rate monitor fans, here's some data from Howard (absolute HRmax = 185; Threshold = 164 bpm). On a cold windy day in March, I recorded 23:44 (HRmax: 172, average: 165, HRend: 168). In September, 23:00 (HRmax: 173, average: 165, HRend: 170). So, I went quicker in September because: (a) it was warmer (and I was wearing slightly less clothing), (b) I was fitter and able to produce more power, for the same average HR, and (c) I didn't get caught by Marky, so didn't give up (in fact, I thought I was down on Pete Oliver at the turn, but it seemed I mis-calculated in my head) and pushed it all the way to the line (higher HRend).]
3 September: BTTC championship time trials Master D: Joe is 17th with 56:30. Junior: Dexter is 18th with 56:54.

9 August: Club 2-up 10. Cyan Collier and David McGaw win the 2-up, and Mark Jones scores the fastest solo time of the night Results here.
5 August: Tywyn Criteriums, Wales. Whilst "on holiday" in South Wales (it sounded more like a training camp to me!) Joe and Dex took in a cat. 3/4 criterium, which was a support race for the Welsh National Championships. Joe writes:
"On Saturday 5th we did the Regional 3/4 RR at Tywyn supporting the Welsh National Champs, Great crit circuit around part of the town/sea front. (Closed roads!!) The boys in orange were at the pointy end, the commentator saying that the Gardias brothers were working well (well Dex is looking older these days). Naturally half the field fell off due to rubber band effect, so it was down to a group of about 12/15 with 15 miles to go. It was difficult to decide what to do, as always, because every time you dug in, the bunch would reel you back in. The strongest team in numbers was the Ystwystwyth local club (as in Aber...) however seemed unable to work us over as they should have done. There were probably four or five riders keeping pace highish so maybe it was just too high for such tactics??
In trying to lead Dexter out at the finish, found myself in third coming out the fast 90-degree left onto the finishing straight (about 80 yds long), no sign of Dex under my armpit as normal, so I spun for the line, ending up equal second, with a medal, a bag of money (well twenty quid) and one energy gel in my podium "bag". Still great fun, and a 3rd cat licence for me!"

A list of local time trial events is given on the Oxonian CC website. I'll add a list to the OCRC website, giving details of Oxford City Club cups that can be won at the summer events, very soon. The London West District website also has the full listing for time trials, both club and "open" for the 2005 season
