ALL CYCLISTS WELCOME

Mudguards please for the comfort of all.
What to wear. It can get cold out on these rides so remember to dress appropriately. A few thin(ner) layers are generally better so you can strip off if it gets too warm (as if!). You'll need full length gloves, and neoprene overshoes are a good idea if you've got thin-soled racing shoes. Don't forget to pack a lightweight waterproof jacket in case we get caught in a shower.
Food and drink. Although it's the winter and you'll be sweating less, you'll still need to take some water, squash or energy drink. Put a couple of cake or cereal bars in your back pocket (elevenses bars, Tunnock's caramel wafers, Fair trade Geobars, etc. are good value, as is malt loaf and its derivatives, cut into bit-sized pieces) for emergencies and some change to buy a coffee and a cake at the cafe stop.
Spares. It's a good idea to take a mini pump (at least) and a couple of spare inner tubes and some tyre levers. In addition to this a multiool will enable you to adjust anything that works loose. If you're thinking belt-and-braces, take a chain tool (breaking your chain is one of the few mechanical problems that'll end your ride for certain), some zip ties and a spare section of old racing tyre to use as a "boot" in case you split or badly hole a tyre. A spoke key will help to tweak a badly crinkled wheel back into shape, should you hit a *really* big pothole.
